Healthy Families America

WKO’s Outreach Specialists staff the Healthy Families America® (HFA) program, a nationally-recognized FREE home visiting program. It is designed to assist parents to ensure that their children receive the nurturing care that is essential to leading a healthy and productive life. Pregnant women/teens and families with infants up to 6 months old are eligible for enrollment. The Outreach Specialists can accompany parents’ on their journeys until their youngest child is three years old, providing health education, support and resources.

Parents as Teachers

WKO partners with Southern Reynolds County R-II School district to provide an early-child Parent as Teachers (PAT) program. Our PAT program matches parents and caregivers with a trained Parent Educator who makes regular personal home visits during a child’s earliest years in life, from prenatal through kindergarten.

The national Parents as Teachers program is known to increase the literacy and school success of young children. But we now know that school success also requires a focus on the health of young children, their parents and siblings. Through WKO’s PAT program, Parent Educators conduct child screenings, which serve a critical role in the early detection of developmental delays and health problems, and recommend appropriate learning activities and other resources for the family to foster their child's skills and development.

Maternal-Child Nursing Program

Registered nurses staff the Maternal-Child Nursing Program, which utilizes the home visiting model of Nurses for Newborns in St. Louis. The program provides a safety net for families in order to help prevent infant mortality, child abuse and neglect. In response to referrals from medical centers, physicians' offices, clinics, social service agencies and direct requests from families, Whole Kids Outreach sends specially trained nurses to the homes of pregnant women or parents.

Horse Riding Program

Working with horses teaches compassion & cooperation and builds self-confidence. WKO is home to a wonderful herd of horses — and also a few donkeys! We offer individual and group riding lessons for elementary and high school age children throughout the school year. Horses are also a big part of our summer camp, where campers enjoy both riding and learning to take care of our special friends.
