Water Safety

Water fun is the best part of summer - but safety comes first!

Whether it’s the pool, lake, river or splash pad, keeping little ones safe around water is so important. Here are a few simple tips every parent should know.

Let’s make it a summer full of fun AND safety!

  1. Never let your child swim alone — even strong swimmers need adult supervision.

  2. Stay within arm’s reach of young kids anytime they’re in or near water.

  3. Skip breath-holding games — they can be risky and lead to blackouts.

  4. Life jackets are a must for boating and open water. Make sure they fit properly!

  5. If someone’s in trouble in the water, don’t jump in. Use a pole or throw something to help.

  6. Teach kids to always go in feet first — diving can cause serious injuries.

  7. Keep children away from pool drains. Hair, fingers, and clothing can get trapped.

  8. Knowing CPR can make all the difference. Take a class — it could save a life.

  9. Drowning often happens due to momentary lapses in supervision, not absence.
Stay focused and avoid distractions like phones or books.
