Cold Weather!
Here are some tips for keeping babies and toddlers safe in extra cold weather! Stay warm!!
Cold Weather Safety for Babies and Toddlers
Avoid outdoor play when temperatures or wind chills are below -15°F.
Babies should only be outside for a few minutes; toddlers should take breaks every 20–30 minutes.
Dress children in layers (babies usually need one more layer than adults).
Keep children dry and cover heads, hands, ears, and feet.
If clothes get wet from outside, take off immediately once you are indoors.
Watch for hypothermia: low energy, shivering, clumsiness, red or cold skin.
Watch for frostbite: white or pale gray skin on fingers, toes, ears, or nose.
If a baby or toddler’s body temperature drops below normal or symptoms are concerning, seek medical care immediately.
If you feel cold outside, your child likely is too — head indoors.
